Altar Guild
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Altar Guild contributes to Bethel by creating an inspirational atmosphere and spiritual mood in which congregants may worship. We are a small group of servants who volunteer and dedicate themselves to the custodial preparation of worship services by preparing the physical environment, placing and maintaining elements essential to the worship service within the designated space. Our area of responsibilities include: presenting the altar in a specific planned arrangement, cleaning and maintaining linens, paraments, silver altar ware, wine trays and communion wafers, flower arrangements; seasonally changing the paraments throughout the year to agree with the liturgical color calendar and support of the Elders in preparation of the worship service, presenting the wine flagon, chalice and individual wine cup trays for their use and cleaning after use. Items used and soiled such as the linens are washed, ironed and stored by the Altar Guild. If additional cleaning and repair of paraments and/or linens are needed, the Altar Guild takes care of this. Other work includes dusting and cleaning the immediate altar space, filling candles with oil and otherwise keeping the storage and work-space clean and tidy. We always have room for new members so please contact a member of the Altar Guild if you are interested.
